Breaking: Piersol Misses 100 Back Finals

World Record holder Aaron Piersol had the 9th best semifinal time in the 100M backstroke semifinals at the World Championships in Rome. Piersol had won the previous two Olympic gold medals in the event. His time of 53.22 seconds was almost a full second behind Japan’s Junya Koga, the top qualifier. In addition, Piersol was just one tenth of a second from making the finals.

Matt Grievers is the only American who will race in the finals.
