Streeter Made Few Friends During Her Tenure

USOC Chief Executive Stephanie Streeter has announced that she will step down sometime within the next 5 months. Her announcement came on the same day the USOC unanimously voted that she didn’t have the skills to lead the organization. The USOC will now hire a recruiting firm to oversee the hiring of a new chief, who will be come the 3rd person in just the last year to hold that position.

Streeter made a number of mistakes during her tenure, including plans to launch an all Olympics TV network. That met with immediate objections from the IOC.

“We miscalculated the reaction from the IOC and our TV partners at NBC. I still think it’s a good idea. In retrospect, I would’ve altered timing on the announcement.”

Furthermore, Streeter was never really accepted by the leaders of many of the key olympic sports. Those feelings were only exaggerated when it was found that Streeter received nearly a third more pay than previous USOC head Jim Scherr. That, coupled with the defeat of Chicago 2016, spelled Streeter’s end.
