Debbie McCormick and Team USA look to get back on track today vs. Germany
Welcome to a star studded Day 6 at the Olympic Games in Vancouver. On USA network right now, Debbie McCormick and the US Women’s curling team try to bounce back after a rough start against Japan. They take on Germany.
Later on MSNBC, defending men’s ice hockey silver medalists Finland take on Belarus.
On CNBC, John Shuster and the 0-2 American curling team need to defeat Switzerland to have any hope of the medal round.
And on NBC, the best cross country skiier in the history of the United States, Kikkan Randall, begins her quest for a gold. There are also men’s sprints.

11:19 – Germany goes up 1-0. Although since they had the hammer, that’s a plus for McCormick.
11:25 – Blank for the United States. Germany’s skip has missed a couple key shots. Still 1-0 Germany going to the 3rd.
11:50 – Hey Debbie McCormick: You clog the house and you’re going to lose the hammer. Maybe we should keep it clean and not play like a group of morons
12:00 – McCormick had a chance for 3, but she shanked it and could only get 1
12:11 – This German skip strikes me as kind of a dumbass.
12:14 – Not as big of a dumbass as our team though. 3 for Germany as they take a 4-1 lead.
12:32 – US forced to take just 1. 4-2 Germany.
12:49 – At worst here Germany is going to get 1 point. The US has a chance to steal.
12:53 – And with a gorgeous shot by the US, they steal a point. 4-3 Germany going into the 8th.
1:09 – Germany gets 2, and now lead 6-3 again with 2 ends left. This one is basically over.
1:53- Germany wins 6-5 and the US is basically eliminated from the medal round.
1:57 – Great Britain skip Eve Muirhead, the youngest in Olympic history at 19 years old, makes a clutch shot to defeat China in her opener.
2:07 – The world’s #1 ranked cross country skiier in the 1.2 km classical, Slovenia’s Petra Majdic, has hurt her back in a turn. But they are going to allow her to start last so she may qualify.
2:10 – Majdic is flying now. She’s already passed the person in front of her.
2:13 – Kikkan Randall of the United States has qualified. So has Majdic. Whether she can go on remains to be seen.
2:34 – Kikkan Randall finishes 3rd in her quarterfinal heat. Need to wait for the next three to see if she will make the semis.
2:39 – Don’t go to TBL if you want to know who wins the women’s downhill.
2:40 – No one from this heat will be a lucky loser. Kikkan Randall’s time was better than the winner of this group.
2:54 – In hockey, Sergei Kostitsyn of Belarus scores to cut the Finland lead to 2-1
2:5 – Kikkan Randall has qualified as the #1 “lucky loser”
3:13 – Peter Northug of Norway wins his heat and will qualify for the semifinals.
3:38 – Kikkan Randall isn’t going to qualify
3:30 – She was fourth in her heat, and would need a miracle to qualify.
3:36 – Randall doesn’t qualify, but Majdic does.
3:44 – Joensson and Northug both in this semi.
3:48 – Hattestad and Northug advance. Emil Jonsson will not. Shocking.
3:55 – In women’s, Marit Bjoergen of Norway wins Gold. Kowalczyk of Poland the silver, and Madjic of Slovenia the bronze.
4:07 – Russia goes 1-2. Northug takes the Bronze.
4:18 – Shuster’s team down 2-0 to Switzerland after 1
4:27 – Smith throws one straight through the house. Will be a problem for the US to avoid a Swiss steal
4:37 – Shuster makes a hell of a shot…too bad it still allowed the Swiss to steal a point.
6:26 – So, I’ve been so wrapped up in the action that I forgot to update. Shuster is now up by 2 in the 9th. The Swiss have the hammer.
6:30 – Shuster makes a pretty good shot to throw up a guard. A double is semi open for the Swiss, but it will be very tough.
6:33 – The Swiss skip with the shot of the tournament. Shuster is going to have some work to do to get it out of there.
6:38 – US up by 1, going into the last end with the hammer. I hope this ends soon cause I am hungry.
6:45 – We might be going to an extra end. The US has missed a golden opportunity. A double takeout is possible.
6:48 – Switzerland is going to keep throwing up guards. At some point the US will have to draw around it. Worst case scenario, they will have the hammer in the 10th
6:53 – Biiiiiiig shot here.
6:54 – They missed it! Shuster has basically the same shot to win it here.
6:55 – He missed it again. Fuck you John Shuster.

Germany leads the overall medal count with 9. The United States is 2nd with 8.
Germany, Korea and Switzerland all are tied with the most Gold medals with 3

I watched some of the US-Norway match late night too to see what you were talking about earlier last night.
Definitely a fashion emergency minus perhaps the mustard and ketchup stains in that session last night on those shirts. And those pants worn by Norway as I sent you in that link yesterday? C’mon!
Is there some rule in curling that all players must look like a bunch of country club rejects who made it out of a bowling alley? Why can’t they look more badass and intimidating, though of course stopping short of any trash-talking?
And how do they slide with those shoes and not slip on the ice?
One minute you are watching and you see them looking at the stones to gauge what to do, and then as if levitating they quickly go to the other side of the ice. How do they do that? That’s the most fascinating part for me.
One of the shoes has a slider on the bottom so you can slide when you are actually doing the curling, whereas the other is a normal shoe. That way you can slide all the way out there when you throw the rock, but you can also walk along the ice when you’re sweeping
and re: fashion. That’s just how it is I guess. I’m assuming it’s a comfort thing.
Future project for you and your calling too I think Fetch. 😀 It is a fashion emergency after all and demands competent attention. I expect a monthly report on your progress on my desk by the 7th of each month. 😛
One of the bad things about twitter.
I follow a local sportswriter who is in Vancouver and he’s live tweeting the women’s downhill event. I don’t want to know any of it god damn it.
Yeah I unfollowed everyone who was doing that.
I said Twitter to the shitter a long time ago before Miley Cyrus. Not just my experience shows that it is for folks addicted to ADD at the next level beyond the Crackberry.
And I hate especially those douchebags who can’t compose much less read two concise paragraphs but somehow are okay with accomplishing the same in more time with 30+ tweets and so forth.
Usually it takes a wife or kids to change that sorry-ass attitude and then some.
The other problem with Twitter is that like with camcorders in the 1990s and YouTube last decade, everyone with Twitter now thinks they are a reporter of “Breaking News.” Call it the novelty effect.
A small few are indeed, but all the others are fuckin’ bojack losers including the likes of those who fell for Snooki being a person of real Italian background on Jersey shore.
I wonder if they are tweeting that scoop I got this morning from radio of all places yet, or are they debating the continued “merits” of such a loser show instead now? Fuckin’ loser sheeple.
Interesting play in progress Fetch notwithstanding the fashion emergency and now apparently also dental emergency …I thank God now for my healthy teeth too.

Fetch, three quick questions:
1) Why are they allowed to touch the rocks after collision before the rocks hit the rails?
2) What is the black line at the start for? Must the rock be released by the time it crosses or touches that line?
3) What is the center line for other than for sake of perspective?
Otherwise most of the rest of the game makes sense to me. It is like a enhanced version of bocce on ice.
