Closing Ceremonies Open (Closed?) Thread

Time to say goodbye

Well here it is folks. The last day of coverage from Vancouver. Coming up there will be a look back at the best moments of the games on NBC, and then after that we’ll see the Closing Ceremonies, also on NBC.

I really don’t have it in me right now to sum up the games in a couple paragraphs, so feel free to leave any thoughts in the comments.

I do want to say, however, that the past 2 weeks have been a blast for me, and I couldn’t have done it without you guys. All the pageviews and all the comments were so amazing to me. When I first started the blog I just did it because the Olympics are my favorite sporting event out there, and I never expected that it would grow like it did. So once again thank you guys and keep stopping by, as I will definitely keep on posting after the games.6:00 – There will be a one hour or so look back at the best moments of the Olympics, but before we get to that, a note that the United States won the medal count for the first time in a Winter Olympics since 1932. Good for them.

6:25 – Showing Shani Davis now. Great job by Dan Hicks and Dan Jansen on the announcing all Olympics from the oval. They were just great.

6:37 – Evan Lysacek’s gold medal winning long program coming up here.

7:06 – Shaun White is freakin amazing

7:16 – Yeah, Kim Yu-Na threw down probably the best figure skating routine I have ever seen. Yet you would never know about it due to all the talk about a couple other skaters.

7:24 – Steve Holcomb, yet another story of these games. What a hell of a guy.

7:30 – Closing ceremonies time.

7:32 – Props to the Canucks for poking fun at themselves for the whole torch lighting fiasco. Good for them.

7:34 – David Atkins, who did the opening ceremony as well, will do the closing ceremony.

7:49 – Flag bearers coming in now. Remember the United States’s bearer is nordic combined Gold medalist Bill DeMong.

7:51 – Canada’s flag bearer is, of course, Joannie Rochette.

7:53 – Ryan Miller is in the house, and looking happy. Classy for him to even show up, to be honest.

8:16 – Said it many times before, but Petter Northug has to be one of the top 10 athletes on Earth.

8:24 – The Olympic theme is…….weird. Yeah, that’s a good word for it.

8:29 – Russia’s anthem is pretty underrated. Let’s put it this way, if they were our neighbors everyone would say how cool it is.

8:52 – What do the people who can’t speak English do while this speech is going on?

8:58 – Rogge declares the games closed. Neil Young up now.

9:06 – The flame is extinguished. One of the saddest events of the year.

9:16 – Michael J Fox. Awesome

9:18 – Michael Buble now. Always been a fan of his.

9:24 – Table top hockey. Awesome.

Well folks, the Closing Ceremony will be back in an hour, but that is going to wrap up my coverage from Vancouver. I’ll have some posts recapping the games, going over my medal predictions, etc. in the coming days, but for now so long.

And once again, thanks so much for making this fun for me.

Yeah he’s right Fetch you can represent us in Sochi and I’d be honoured to even be considered for business manager to set up all the stuff off the ice and conduct “special operations.”

And at least the team can show up looking sharper and bad-ass too. We need to have the competition jittery and intimidated by our bad-ass appearance as soon as you all step on the ice instead of a bunch of out-of-shape guys showing up with bowling shirts with ketchup or mustard stains. A team will never be taken seriously looking that in anything.

I’m sad as shit right now.

Fetch I know you didn’t really care for it, but Joannie Rochette’s short program was pretty awesome. Just all of the emotion was awesome, so I thought.
