Just a month after becoming the first white person to break the 10 second  barrier in the 100m dash, Christophe Lemaitre has a European title to go with it. He clocked in at a time of 10.11 seconds, defeating four others who had tied with a 10.18 second time.

The 20 year old got off to a slow start but pulled away near the end to win fairly comfortably.

Hot off the blocks were a pair of Brits: Dwain Chambers, who had tested positive for doping in 2002, and Mark Lewis-Francis.

Lewis-Francis took the silver, and Frenchman Martial Mbandjock won the Bronze.
