Alex Pullin Upsets A Pair of Americans to win Snowboardcross World Championship

Olympic gold medalist Seth Wescott was edged out for gold, and settled for silver

Australian Alex Pullin has the biggest win of his career. After a huge disappointment in Vancouver, when he was knocked out of the quarterfinals after a crash as the #1 seed, Pullin held off a pair of Americans, defending gold medalist Seth Wescott and  Nate Holland, to claim the SBX world championship. It was Wescott’s third silver in this event. Pullin’s gold was Australia’s first ever medal at the Snowboard cross world championships.

In the women’s race, Lindsey Jacobellis dominated the final race to claim her third world championship. Defending Olympic champion Maelle Ricker from Canada crashed during the final run, and she finished fourth. The other women’s medalists were Nelle Moenne of France and Canadian Dominique Maltais.

No other American woman made the quarterfinals. American Jonathan Cheever competed in the small final, which is for the snowboarders who lose in the semifinals.
