Despite a bruised arm from her champagne bottle mishap, Lindsey Vonn won her 3rd consecutive downhill event, and in the process regained the lead in the overall World Cup standings.

She got down the mountain in Krummholz in 1 minute, 38.84 seconds. That time was .35 seconds ahead of the 2nd place finisher and .39 ahead of the 3rd place finisher Maria Resch, whom Vonn took the overall standings lead from.

Vonn and Resch lead the overall World Cup standings by a wide margin. Vonn has 694 points while Resch has 659.

The next race will be in Haus im Ennstal, Austria again.

Vonn Injured

January 2, 2010 1 comment

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about you guys, just been busy.

Lindsey Vonn, the only female back to back World Cup champion in United States history, could be out of the World Championships after she hurt a tendon cutting it on a champagne bottle in a victory celebration.

She had surgery in Austria, which was successful. She is now out of the clinic.

The slalom is the final race of the championships, and given that it is Vonn’s worst event, she may opt to skip it to make sure she is 100% when the World Cup starts back up. She currently is in 1st place in the standings.

And of course, there is the Olympics in a little over a month.
