Usain Bolt to Take the Rest of 2010 Off

August 11, 2010 Leave a comment

The world record holder in the 100 and 200 meter dashes will be taking the rest of the year off in an effort to heal his ailing back and achilles.

Bolt lost his most recent race in Stockholm to American Tyson Gay.

This hiatus appears to be just a precautionary measure as a Bolt spokesman said this injury causes Bolt to overcompensate and could lead to leg injuries in the future.

It appears that much like how a football player says he’d be able to play if it were the playoffs, Bolt would be able to run if it were a major meet. Sadly those will have to wait until 2011 for Bolt.

Tyson Gay Beating Usain Bolt: Fluke or Challenge?

August 10, 2010 Leave a comment

Last week in Stockholm, Tyson Gay exploded out of the blocks and then held off Usain Bolt to win the 100m in their first race since the Olympics. Gay ran a 9.84 while Bolt only barely broke 10 seconds, running a 9.97. But Bolt probably didn’t have his mind or feet terribly interested in this meet. He got a reported $250,000 just to run and Stockholm is a pretty minor meet. Secondly, Bolt has been bothering health problems: he is recovering from an achilles injury and can’t run more than 200 meters.

Lastly, it must be pointed out that Tyson Gay was undoubtedly more motivated to win that race, owing to his disastrous Olympics, and Bolt’s achilles must have been bothered by the racers having to stand up from the blocks twice before the race even started.

When at peak form, Tyson Gay has a chance, but only if Bolt is off his game like he was in Stockholm.
